Yak Bak!

The Yak Bak was a small plastic toy that recorded a few seconds of audio and let you mangle it. This is that, on a phone, without the plastic.

The engineering that matters is all in the audio path: recording, buffering, and applying reverse and rate changes with low enough latency that the toy still feels like a toy. Get that wrong and the nostalgia evaporates immediately.
